Luke the Labrador Meets and Greets Guests At Historic Fairmount Hotel in Downtown San Antonio
"Guests are immediately smitten with Luke. They can't resist petting him, talking to him and offering him treats. I've had people offer to buy him and take him home, but we'd never think of parting with Luke. He's definitely part of the Fairmount family." -- Fairmount owner Robert D. Tips

The Fairmount is so unique and reflects the grace, charm and elegance of San Antonio. Your motto "The Jewel of San Antonio" is certainly fitting. The style and décor of the rooms almost takes you back to the turn of the 19th century. And of course, Luke adds his own special canine charm to the hotel. But it is your staff that makes this hotel so great.

"Beautiful Hotel Me and my in laws, and 2 friends stayed here for my husband's Basic training graduation. The hotel was gorgeous, we were immediately greeted by a valet who parked our car and someone took our bags for us to our room. They had a dog mascot also, which was different. We got up to the room and it was gorgeous! every bed was different, my in laws room was completely different than ours. If you wanted a soda, you just had to call them and they would bring it to you within 5 minutes, great service. The bed was extremely comfortable, after the long day of traveling, it was great to take a nap in probably the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. I loved it, and wish i had a trip there again sometime to stay here."

"VIP Treatment at a Lovely Hotel My husband and I spent some time in San Antonio on our honeymoon. We got there the night of the "Luminares" Festival and the streets around the hotel were all closed off. We called the hotel and they said to tell the officer we were guests at the hotel and they would let us through. We got to the parking lot and an attendant said we couldn't park there, but guy from the hotel came running out and took care of getting our car parked and our bags in. We got checked in and spent some time on the balcony watching performances on the stage that was set up right next to the hotel. Then the hotel staff took us in the Fairmount Escalade to our dinner reservation. Though all of our activites were within walking distance, it was nice to have the option to be dropped off and picked up in the Escalade by a friendly Faimount staff member.

On a whim, my husband called the concierge to ask if there was anywhere nearby where we could get massages. Cindy at the front desk made some calls for us and got it all set up and then Ron drove us there. It was all so wonderful. The Fairmount only has 37 guest rooms, so I'm sure the individual attention could not have been matched by one of the jumbo hotels nearby. Our room was nice and clean. Only problem was that we didn't have a red "do-not-disturb" tassle to hang on the door and the housekeeping lady tried to open our door before we were ready to get up. (The latch kept her from actually entering.) We are planning to return next year for our first anniversary."

" A really great old-style boutique hotel with beautiful rooms and attentive staff. The San Antonio Fairmount is flanked by the drearily predictable chain hotels of Hiltons and Marriots, of which there are far too many in this town. By contrast the Fairmount gave us the most memorable long weekend, Friday through Tuesday, in a beautiful and quiet room, with excellent front desk staff, informative and intelligent in response to our needs. All at a very reasonable price.

The hotel has a lot of charm in its architecture (delightful interior courtyard, curving staircase, and homely lobby with hotel dog Luke-a great hit with our own son Luke). If there were more hotels like this around the world I'd be very happy. The adjacent restaurant, just opened, was a big advantage for us. It had great food and very friendly service. They should have a terrific future. I went for one breakfast at the nearby Hilton, but it was really terrible quality, and expensive. This is like a classy 4 star hotel in Venice, if you were lucky enough to make the booking. A great reason in itself for going to San Antonio and now our well-travelled 10-year old son's favorite hotel, particularly for the quality of the room And he's extremely fussy."

"Great Experience! My wife and I stayed at the Fairmount for 7 nights and were extremely pleased. We were treated like royalty. The staff was attentive, accomodating, and professional! This hotel is classy and it has character. I would highly recommend this hotel (we plan to stay here the next time we're in San Antonio)."

"Great First Family Vacation – Loved The Fairmount! Pulling up to the hotel we noticed the character and charm of the hotel . . . you really can say that The Fairmount Hotel is "The Jewel of San Antonio", it sticks out as being so unique compared to the other hotels downtown.
This was our first family vacation with our 14 month old son, so our van was loaded down with everything but the kitchen sink. We expected a bit of annoyance from the staff because we had so much travel gear, but Nathan was there to help us get everything out of the van and into the room without hesitation. I have to say that we may have required a little more attention than normal because we had a toddler with us - when we needed more towels the staff had them to our room in a moments notice and every morning and evening when we wanted to give our son his milk my husband would go down to the hotel restaurant and they gave him all the milk we needed and didn't even charge us!

We stayed in a Veranda Suite that overlooks the courtyard on one side, and Hemisfair Park on the other (windows on both sides - big room). When we entered our room we felt as though we were entering a Victorian mansion that someone let us stay in for a few days. We walked into a sitting room that was decorated with the most beautiful antique furniture, then the large bedroom with two queen beds was connected with a long hallway (a luxurious bathroom is located off of the hallway). The room was huge and there was plenty of room for our van load of stuff. We were even able to set up our son's travel play yard in the room so he could occupy himself with one of his favorite things.

Luke the Labrador, The Fairmount's Pet relations Director is as cute as he can be - my son loved him and Luke even let us take several pictures of him and my son with out any problems. He's a big friendly ham of a mutt.

I can't say enough great things about the Fairmount Hotel - the staff was super friendly and prompt with any of our requests. The hotel location was excellent, across the street from trolley service to everything in town, and just a short walk from all the things we wanted to do, like the Riverwalk, La Vallita and, of course, The Alamo. We loved the room - it was both spacious and luxurious with Victorian-style furnishings and modern amenities. They pointed out that each of the rooms is decorated differently, when we go back we look forward to trying other rooms. What a wonderful first family vacation experience!"

The Fairmount Hotel - Downtown San Antonio- Testimonials

"Wonderful, quaint downtown San Antonio hotel! My wife, 7-year-old daughter and I just returned from a weekend in downtown San Antonio, where we stayed at The Fairmount. It's a great alternative to some of the more expensive hotels that are right on the Riverwalk. The Fairmount borders the south side of La Villita, which offers easy access to the river through the Arneson River Theater.

The Fairmount is a charming, historic, remodeled hotel that was actually moved to its current site years ago from across downtown. We stayed in a Queen suite (about $200 a night, although we bought the stay at a silent auction that The Fairmount graciously donated to) that offered a bedroom, living room, and nice bath. It also featured television sets in the two rooms and nice antique furnishings and finishes. We stayed on the third floor (the top floor) overlooking Hemisfair Plaza on one side and La Villita and the Hilton Palacio del Rio on the other.

The hotel has several charming quirks. The modern-feeling Luca restaurant has a wood-burning firepit, and you can smell the smoke throughout the hotel. We didn't eat at the restaurant, but we noticed the breakfast menu prices easily beat what you find on the Riverwalk. Luke, the hotel labrador, sleeps downstairs and is available to guests for walks around Hemisfair. The front desk people are great, and they serve as both the desk personnel and valets, so be prepared to wait a bit if you're trying to check in or get your car. Overall, great hotel, great experience, great value!"

"Everything they say they are a more!! The Fairmount Hotel was so charming, romantic and clean. The rooms were some of the most beautiful, like home rooms I have ever seen. (I travel 250 days a year staying and hotels) The decorating is outstanding. The staff is so knowledgeable and was always willing to go the extra mile to make my stay memorable and comfortable. The dog in the lobby made be feel closer to home. GREAT JOB San Antonio! I cannot wait to come back!

"History, class, great service, and a dog named Luke As a business traveller who spends more than 300 days in hotels per year, I was pleasantly suprised to find myself in the Fairmount San Antonio. This place has class, character and great service. Not another big box with a brand name and product indistinguishable from the chains.

The place is small (37 rooms), and it oozes character. Personable and sincere service was received from all departments. Don't forget to say hello to Luke. Luke is a big dog that lives in the hotel. Ask the staff about his fascinating story.

Although I hate the thought of spending my leisure time at a hotel, if I had to buy a hotel room in San Antonio, The Fairmount would be my first choice
